This course considers Arabic language to be the means and the main tool for the study of journalism.  So the material of this course is the basis on which the first course on journalistic editing depends.  The purpose of this course is also to improve student’s language ability and proficiency to express himself or herself verbally or in writing to the extent that his/her language becomes so clear, sound, and error-free.  It also requires that students’ linguistic mastery should include the following:

 

1. Rules of grammar, syntax with emphasis on duality (almuthana) pluralization, numbers, and combination of numbers and numbered, etc.

2. Writing and correct spelling in addition to the writing of Al-Hamza.

3. The rules of correct numbering and punctuation

4Media & mass communication terms (jargon)

It is highly recommended that the samples and examples students use should be taken from other Arab media outlets such newspapers and magazines in order to introduce students to our media language and the media jargon being used and in order to avoid committing the same common errors.
