The Department of English at An-Najah inaugurated the 1st International Conference on Current Academic Research at Martyr Zafer Al-Masri Auditoriums. Attendees to the inauguration ceremony included Prof. Rami Hamdallah, President of An-Najah, Dr. Maher Abu Zant, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr. Fayez Aqel, Head of the English Department, Mrs. Dana Rassas, Representative of the U.S. Consulate General in Jerusalem, Mr. Muhammad Al-Kobari, Director of the British Council in Nablus, Omar Al-Bzour, Chief of Nablus Police Department, in addition to staff and students from the English Department.

At the beginning of the Conference, Dr. Iman Hammad and Dr. Aqel welcomed the participants and attendees and thanked the University’s administration for supporting this event. Dr. Aqel said the Conference aims to develop research work that the Department of English produces and seeks to bring together experts in the field of English to discuss various issues. It also aims to develop scientific research in the fields of linguistics and literature so as to push the educational process in Palestine forward and encourage the students to take part in the implementation of studies and the application of what they learn on the ground.
Prof. Hamdallah thanked the staff at the Department of English for their great efforts to organize and prepare for this substantial event and said that An-Najah has always been one of the leading educational institutions in Palestine ever since its establishment in 1918. He also mentioned that the University seeks to serve the local society through its different scientific centers and facilities such as the new Teaching Hospital which is currently under construction and shall represent a major medical institution that would provide the Palestinians with unique medical care.

Dr. Abu Zant praised Prof. Hamdallah’s efforts to support both the Faculty of Arts and this Conference which seeks to develop scientific research conducted at the Department of English. He also spoke about the many plans that the Faculty has in mind such as the inclusion of more departments especially the translation department which would contribute to the advancement of the Faculty and its staff.
Mrs. Rassas expressed the Consulate’s pride to support this Conference and hoped the participants would benefit from the mutual discussion and sharing of knowledge that this event offers.

A large number of local and international researchers and scholars participated in the event from the various Palestinian, Arab and international universities.
